Set Design: FAME AWARDS 1998
What was meant to be the English-language Channel 5's equivalent to Channel 8's successful "Star Search" talent show(case), the inaugural "Fame Awards" in 1998 turned out to be the one and sole show of it's kind.
And while I have previously posted about the SEMI-FINALS (leading up to the Finals), featured here is the subsequent "FINALS", which saw a few familiar faces, including Pierre Png and Michelle Chong!
Featured here are images of my conceptual drawing of my Set Design, some select documentation, and snaps in studio (filmed in TV Theatre in Caldecott Hill), and eventual broadcast stages (most of whom can be view online here on Facebook).
The concept was more of a urban cityscape, manifested in blue drapes, in lieu of the "dramatic" red drapes, with cool tones coming off the set itself. There would be glamour, but with a subtle slice of pomp. There would be glitzy (night)lights, but not obtuse neons.
My initial set was all in subtle shades of greys, and in the end PINK food the consciousness, embellished by the gold. And nothing like brand new glossy acrylic flooring, reflecting the se that sat on it...!
What I do remember I'd wanted to do (or it might have been in the brief, I cannot remember), was to have a fascimile of the award trophy itself, be enlarged larger than life, and rotating on the center of the stage.
Other than that, I had attempted to scale-up the set itself, achieving 2 storeys' height, so that with the massive group performance happening in the center of stage, they'll still be "within" the set seen in the background.
Featured below is the FULL construction drawong package, along with my spoken commentary. Video also watchable here on @andyhengart Instagram, cheers.
