Set Design: CRIMEWATCH (1996-2000)

When CRIMEWATCH had a studio set…! This was 1996 in The Television Corporation of Singapore (on Caldecott Hill). Featured here are images of the set sans hosts, and as well screengrabs of broadcast (Watchable on www.mewatch.sg).

WHAT-IS: "Crimewatch is a docu-drama series that showcases the crimes solved by the Singapore Police Force and also promotes public awareness towards trending crimes."









Basic layout for a single estab frontal (for 2 shots), and singles on both sides, for which I provided a non-mirrored set/setting with different backgrounds, both replicating the "CRIMEWATCH" words, in both embossed and a cut-thru text.

I will attempt to add documentation images if and when I find them, cheers. As per all SETS designed in TCS, in addition to the concept and design, we as well include the documentation (construction drawing and floor plans to relevant studio crew).







There was a set change for the 1997 season, also designed by me (Watchable here on mewatch.sg), for which I'll add documentation for (if I can find them). The set was re-utilised in 1998 (Watchable here on mewatch.sg), ending with a seasonal Christmas theme, which by then the production no longer credited me in the show's closing credits, understandably as I had already left TCS at that point.

The set was used again in studio in 1999, ending in 2000, with a new set welcoming in 2001.







I recognise that I would replicate this concept of frosted panels with cut-outs, and silhouetted backgrounds in other sets I've done (including 1997's "Corporate Raiders" and even host/compare shows years on in "Samsung Sports World"), giving the illusion of added depth to a set, at least in the mid and close-up shots :)
